About the Journal
Focus and Scope
INSPIRE: International Journal of Science in Primary Education is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing research and practice in science education at the primary school level. The journal focuses on science teaching and learning for children aged 6–12 years and welcomes original contributions in the following areas:
- Inquiry-based and problem-based science learning
- Science curriculum design and evaluation at the primary level
- Teacher professional development in primary science education
- Integration of local and indigenous knowledge in science teaching
- Technology-enhanced science learning (including digital tools and simulations)
- Assessment and evaluation in primary science
- Culturally responsive and inclusive science pedagogy
- STEM integration in primary education
INSPIRE publishes three issues per year (February, June, and October) and welcomes submissions from researchers, educators, and practitioners worldwide.
Open Access Policy
INSPIRE is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, with no subscription fees for readers. To support the costs of open-access publishing, authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication are required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 250,000 (approximately USD 15). Waiver requests may be considered for authors from low-income countries or institutions with limited funding. Please contact the editorial office for waiver inquiries. This journal supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative.

Authors who publish in INSPIRE retain copyright of their work. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. Each manuscript is evaluated by a minimum of two independent reviewers. The editorial team aims to complete the review process within 4–6 weeks of submission.
Publication Ethics
INSPIRE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Plagiarism screening is conducted on all submitted manuscripts. Similarity must not exceed 20%.
Journal History
INSPIRE: International Journal of Science in Primary Education is published by the Department of Primary Teacher Education, Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia. The journal was established to support the growing need for dedicated scholarly communication in primary science education, particularly in the context of Southeast Asian and global educational reform.
Archiving
INSPIRE content is archived through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to ensure long-term digital preservation and access. The journal also participates in LOCKSS and CLOCKSS distributed archiving systems.
