Pengaruh Model Discovery Learning Terhadap Kemampuan Pemahaman Konsep IPA Siswa Kelas IV UPTD SD Negeri 24 Parepare

Abstract

 This study was motivated by the low level of fourth-grade students' understanding of science concepts due to the dominance of conventional teaching methods. The study aimed to analyze the effect of the Discovery Learning model on students' conceptual understanding of science at UPTD SD Negeri 24 Parepare. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design was employed. The sample consisted of 37 students, including 20 students in the experimental class and 17 students in the control class. Data were collected using multiple-choice tests and analyzed through descriptive statistics and an Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental class achieved a higher posttest mean score (86.25) than the control class (72.05). The average N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.787 (high category), while the control class obtained 0.524 (moderate category). The hypothesis test indicated a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), demonstrating that the Discovery Learning model had a significant effect on students' conceptual understanding of science. It is recommended that teachers implement the Discovery Learning model as an alternative instructional strategy to improve elementary students' science conceptual understanding..
